Vantage Data Centers Continues to Expand in the World’s Largest Two Markets

Company adding 68MW of IT capacity across Northern Virginia and Silicon Valley campuses to meet heightened customer demand

DENVER (September 17, 2020) – Vantage Data Centers, a leading global provider of hyperscale data center campuses, today announced that the company is accelerating its ongoing investment and expansion in the world’s two largest data center markets. With the substantial increase in customer demand for premiere hyperscale data center space in recent months, Vantage has begun construction on additional data center facilities at its growing Northern Virginia campus and its second Silicon Valley campus.

Northern Virginia’s Data Center Alley

The Northern Virginia market continues to lead the world in size, and, according to datacenterHawk, Data Center Alley had more absorption in Q2 2020 alone than it did in all of 2019. Vantage is benefitting from this increased demand and has started construction on the next facility on its Ashburn campus to meet the growing number of customer requirements. VA12 is the second of five planned facilities on the 42-acre campus, which will include more than 1 million square feet and 146MW of IT capacity once fully developed.

Upon completion, VA12 will consist of 36MW of IT capacity and more than 250,000 square feet. Phase 1 is expected to be operational in Q1 2021.

With the development of VA12, customers can expect the same best-in-class services and commitment to operational excellence at this highly secure and connectivity rich facility. Located next to the award-winning VA11 facility, VA12 will offer customers several sustainable features, including:

  • Industry-leading power usage effectiveness (PUE) and water usage effectiveness (WUE)
  • Refroidissement très efficace avec économie d’air extérieur grâce à une consommation minimale d’eau
  • Solar and wind energy sources onsite; the first of their kind in Northern Virginia
  • Bornes de recharge alimentées à l’énergie solaire pour véhicules électroniques
  • Ces petites choses qui font la différence: recyclage, lampes LED à détecteur de mouvement, aménagement paysager résistant à la sécheresse, etc.

Silicon Valley

Vantage is also expanding its presence in Silicon Valley as the company has begun construction of CA23 on its second Santa Clara campus, which will include a total of three facilities and 77MW of IT capacity upon completion. This newest facility will consist of more than 200,000 square feet, providing customers with 32MW of IT capacity. It is slated for completion in the second half of 2021.

CA23 is located on a nine-acre site less than two miles from Vantage’s flagship campus, the largest LEED certified campus in North America with a total of 77MW and six facilities. Combined, Vantage’s two Santa Clara campuses will provide customers with a total of nine facilities and 154MW of capacity in the heart of Silicon Valley.

CA23 will offer many sustainable features, including:

  • Installation d’alimentation en eau innovante utilisant de l’eau récupérée
  • Reduced power consumption through high efficiency transformers and LED lighting
  • Reduced water consumption through air-cooled chillers
  • Improved air quality with ventilation systems
  • Office/storage systems served with premium, efficient ductless system with heat recovery technology

“Vantage continues to experience a heightened global demand for hyperscale data center services,” said Sureel Choksi, president and CEO of Vantage Data Centers. “Because our customers want to grow with us across multiple markets, we continue to develop sustainable, state-of-the-art facilities across our portfolio, including in the world’s top data center markets.”

These developments further highlight the company’s growth strategy to invest in the markets hyperscale and cloud providers deem most critical to their businesses. This news continues a busy year for the company, which announced in Q1 a $2 billion European expansion, including the acquisition of Etix Everywhere and greenfield developments in Frankfurt, Berlin, Milan, Warsaw and Zurich, followed by the Q3 acquisition of Next Generation Data, Europe’s largest data center campus.
