Vantage Data Centers Signs The Climate Pledge

Company will reach net zero carbon emissions by 2030

DENVER (Sept. 19, 2022) – Vantage Data Centers, a leading global provider of hyperscale data center campuses, today announced its commitment to The Climate Pledge. Participation in this global initiative is a strategic new step in Vantage’s ongoing commitment to reduce its environmental impact and lessen the effects of climate change.

The company has taken a number of critical steps to reduce carbon emissions as outlined earlier this year in its first annual ESG Report. This includes Vantage’s 2021 pledge to achieve net zero carbon emissions globally by 2030 and the announcement of a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SolarAfrica, a pioneer in South Africa’s solar energy financing. The company also recently announced that it secured two green loans totaling $368 million USD to drive the sustainable development of its Northern Virginia and Quebec City campuses. The loan was provided by Société Générale, one of Europe’s leading investment banks offering sustainability-linked financing options.

Co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019, The Climate Pledge is a commitment by companies to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040 or sooner—a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050.

“A critical component to reducing the impact of climate change is to work together. We are proud that Vantage is one of more than 375+ companies who have signed on to the pledge,” said Amanda Abell, senior director of sustainability, Vantage Data Centers. “Joining The Climate Pledge is another crucial step in Vantage’s longstanding commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. All of the organizations that have joined The Climate Pledge have made a vow to share knowledge, ideas and best practices so that we can make a real and lasting change. Together, we can leave this planet better than how we found it.”

Signatories to The Climate Pledge agree to:

  • Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions regularly.
  • Implement decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions and other carbon emission elimination strategies.
  • Neutralize any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent and socially-beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040 or sooner.
